Double fatal crash occurs near Killdeer

KILLDEER – A 57-year-old Watford City man and a 51-year-old Dickinson man died in the crash of the oil-field vehicles they were driving on N.D. Highway 22, about 17 miles north of Killdeer, Thursday, Feb 5.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, about 5:45 a.m., a 2020 Volvo tractor trailer hauling production water and driven by the Watford City man was traveling south on Highway 22. A 2019 Kenworth pulling a pup trailer with a hot oil tank, pulling a pup trailer with production water, and driven by the Dickinson man, was traveling north near the same location. The Volvo crossed the center line while maneuvering a curve in the road and struck the Kenworth head on. Both drivers died at the scene. Their names were not released at this time.

The Volvo driver was wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol. Whether the Kenworth driver was wearing a seat belt is under investigation.

A minimal amount of production water was released due to the crash.

Highway 22 northbound in the area of the crash was closed for a time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
