Deering vintage snowmobile show, ride returns March 1
DEERING — Now in its 13th year, the Joel Lochthowe and Blaine Kotasek Memorial Vintage Snowmobile Show and Ride will return to Deering on Sunday, March 1. This annual event draws vintage snowmobile enthusiasts from across the region for a day of history, community and family‒friendly fun.
The event remains free to attend, with no entry or registration fees, thanks to volunteers, the support of the Deering community and sponsorship from the Dakota Trailblazers Snowmobile Club.
Formerly known as the Deering Vintage Show, the event was renamed to honor Joel Lochthowe and Blaine Kotasek, two collectors whose passion for vintage snowmobiles sparked the creation and growth of the show. Each year, the small town of Deering transforms into a hub of activity on the first Sunday in March. Local businesses and the Deering Community Center provide food, beverages and warm spaces for visitors. The Community Center also will host a vendor show featuring crafts, homemade goods and local food products.
Vintage snowmobile shows bring together restored and unrestored sleds of all makes, models, classes and eras. There’s even a special class for youth participants. Every vintage snowmobile tells its own story, and each show offers a fresh mix of machines.
Deering sits just northeast of Minot along the Snowmobile North Dakota state trail system, which connects multiple surrounding communities. Area Snowmobile Club volunteers who sign and groom the trails encourage licensed snowmobilers to ride in for the show if trail conditions allow. Weather permitting, the event concludes with a short vintage trail ride.
Set up begins on March 1 at 10:30 a.m., with show hours from noon-2 p.m. and awards at 2 p.m.
The Vintage Ride will follow immediately after awards, weather/trail dependent. Follow Vintage Driftbusters of ND on social media to stay up to date on potentially changing conditions.
