State program teaches preserving personal photographs

BISMARCK — The North Dakota State Archives will offer “Preserving Your Photographs,” a free educational program focused on caring for and preserving personal photograph collections. The virtual and in-person program is recommended for ages 10 and older.

Photo Archivist Matt Ely will provide practical guidance on identifying common preservation issues and protecting photographs for long-term care. Those attending in person are encouraged to bring five to 10 photographs for discussion and questions.

The program will be offered virtually Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m. on the State Archives social media page. It will be offered Thursday, Jan. 29, at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10:30 a.m., both in the classroom at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, Bismarck.

Registration is required for the in-person sessions and is available at Eventbrite.

This event is part of both the ND250 commemoration of the United States’ 250th birthday in 2026 and Vinterfest, a month-long celebration of winter on the northern Plains featuring educational programs, outdoor recreation, and cultural traditions.

Starting at $2.99/week.
