Bishop Ryan students observe annual Las Posadas tradition
Wendy Harper/MDN Students participate in a Las Posadas reenactment Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Bishop Ryan Catholic School as part of the school’s Advent celebration.
Bishop Ryan Catholic School held its annual Las Posadas celebration Tuesday, Dec. 16, continuing a tradition that blends faith, culture and community.
Las Posadas is a Mexican and Latin American tradition that reenacts Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter before the birth of Jesus. Students participated in a procession through the school, accompanied by music, prayer and reflection.
The celebration included a student-led reenactment highlighting the importance of hospitality, compassion and preparing one’s heart for Christmas. Pinatas made by Bishop Ryan third-grade students were also part of the afternoon.
Las Posadas continues to be a meaningful way for the Bishop Ryan community to enter the Advent season while honoring cultural traditions and Catholic values, according to Bishop Ryan information.
