Suspect arrested following weekend stabbing at Minot restaurant
An individual previously taken into custody in connection with a stabbing incident in Minot has been charged with attempted murder, a Class A felony, according to the Minot Police Department.
On Sunday, Sept. 28, at about 9:48 p.m., the police department was notified a stabbing victim had been brought to Trinity Health. Through further investigation, officers learned the victim had been stabbed at a South Broadway Minot restaurant and the suspect, Isac Chaves-Zapata, 21, Mexico, fled the scene on foot.
In the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 29, officers used Chaves-Zapata’s last known phone ping to direct a manhunt around 21st Avenue and 13th Street Southeast. The search involved SWAT, K9 units, drones and assistance from the Ward County Sheriff’s Department and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Chaves-Zapata later contacted the police department and turned himself in at a southeast Minot hotel without incident. The suspected weapon has since been recovered in southeast Minot, not far from the location of the stabbing.
Chaves-Zapata was charged and booked into the Ward County Jail. The victim, who is known to Chaves-Zapata, remains hospitalized in stable condition, police reported.
