Minot man charged after rollover

A Minot man was arrested after a single-vehicle rollover on Thursday, Sept. 17.

According to a Minot Police Department release, police and Minot Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Third Street Northeast for a reported single-vehicle rollover with the vehicle on fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters determined the vehicle was not on fire but was smoking. The vehicle was found to be unoccupied, but responding officers observed the suspected driver fleeing the scene on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended and arrested without further incident.

The suspect was identified as Michael J. Ortega, 20, who was charged with three Class B misdemeanor counts of DUI-first offense, refusal to submit to chemical testing-first offense and reckless driving; one Class A misdemeanor count of fleeing-first offense; and two infractions for open container in a motor vehicle and unlawful consumption of alcohol.

Ortega also had an active failure to appear warrant through Minot Municipal Court. He was evaluated on scene by first responders for injuries but was not transported to the hospital. He eventually was booked into the Ward County Jail.
