HIA Hospice welcomes new medical director

Dr. Mark Rostad
FARGO – Dr. Mark Rostad has joined HIA Hospice as its new medical director. A Kindred native, Rostad brings a wealth of experience and deep local ties to his new role, in which he will lead the organization’s medical team in providing compassionate end-of-life care throughout North Dakota and Minnesota.
Rostad earned degrees in both biology and music from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, before attending the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he was selected to serve as chief resident. He later pursued a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at the University of Iowa.
Following his training, Rostad returned to Fargo to begin his practice with Essentia Health, serving as both a hospitalist and the inpatient palliative care physician. After four years in that dual role, he has now stepped into the position of medical director at HIA Hospice.
“Joining HIA Hospice is an incredible opportunity,” Rostad said. “I’ve worked alongside their team during my time in palliative care and have seen firsthand the dedication and compassion they bring to every patient and family. I’m honored to be part of that mission.”
A lifelong musician, Rostad also enjoys playing piano, composing music, cooking, reading and traveling.
