One person dies when vehicle crashes into lake

A 67-year-old Jamestown woman died after her vehicle went off the road and into Stink Lake in Benson County.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to a report of a submerged vehicle in the lake near 65th Avenue Northeast (old U.S. Highway 281), south of U.S. Highway 2, July 26, according to a Highway Patrol news release.

The exact date and time of the crash are currently unknown, the Highway Patrol said.

Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed tire marks in the gravel, indicating a recent crash. The 1999 Toyota Camry that the woman was driving entered the west ditch and rolled over large rocks before coming to rest on its roof in the lake. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
