Minot man pleads guilty to felonies
A Minot man has entered a change of plea to guilty to a number of charges, including the luring and harboring of a runaway minor.
Joshua Dennis Campbell, 20, entered his change of plea on Monday in North Central District Court, pleading guilty to one Class A felony count of promoting or directing an obscene sexual performance by a minor, and five Class A misdemeanors, including corruption of a minor-victim 15 or older-defendant under 22, luring minors by computer-defendant under 22 believes victim 15-17, harboring a runaway minor, contributing to the deprivation or delinquency of a minor and violation of an order prohibiting contact.
According to court documents, a Bureau of Criminal Investigation agent investigated a report received by the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office of a runaway minor on Nov. 21, 2024. The victim’s father reported he had recently discovered the victim was in a relationship with Campbell, and he had forbidden the victim from seeing him again after he discovered Campbell had lied about being 17.
Investigators extracted a number of messages, images and videos from Campbell’s and the victim’s cell phones, detailing their relationship. The victim and Campbell were eventually located on Nov. 27, 2024, at a southwest Minot address, and Campbell was arrested and charged on Jan. 29.
A sentencing date has been set for Oct. 2, according to Campbell’s attorney Ashley Gulke.
Campbell also has pending cases in Northeast District Court in Bottineau County in relation to the incident that are scheduled for a jury trial from Sept. 23-30. He faces one count of promoting or directing an obscene sexual performance of a minor, a Class A felony; possession of certain materials prohibited, a Class C felony; and two Class A misdemeanor counts of providing false information to law enforcement and harboring a runaway minor.
