Enforcement operations scheduled for holiday weekend

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has announced enforcement operations will be conducted in Bottineau County during the July 4 holiday weekend.

The enforcement operation seeks to enhance public safety by targeting impaired drivers and reducing the number of alcohol-related crashes, according to Highway Patrol information.

The Highway Patrol and the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at a predetermined location in Bottineau County. A second checkpoint will be conducted in Grant County. Saturation patrols will be conducted in both counties following the checkpoints.

According to the Highway Patrol, there have been 35 fatalities in 34 crashes on N.D. roadways through June 20, with 20% of the crashes involving alcohol and nine of the fatalities involving motorcycles.

“Responsible, safe driving saves lives — especially during the busy Fourth of July holiday weekend. Plan a safe ride home ahead of time and never drive impaired. Let’s work together to ensure everyone gets home safely to enjoy celebrating the holiday with their loved ones,” Michael Brown, N.D. Highway Patrol Northwest Regional sergeant, said.
