Bicyclists injured in two separate vehicle crashes in Minot
Two bicyclists were injured in Minot Tuesday in bike-vehicle collisions, including one hit-and-run incident, according to the Minot Police Department.
At about 9:49 a.m., Minot Police, Minot Fire Department and Trinity First Response were dispatched to the intersection of 16th Street and 22nd Avenue Southwest in response to a crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 50-year-old Minot man was riding a bicycle southbound in the crosswalk on 22nd Avenue when he was struck by a sedan. The driver, Kadyn Mason, 19, of Minot, was traveling west on 22nd Avenue and attempting to turn north onto 16th Street. Mason proceeded through a red light and struck the bicyclist in the intersection.
The bicyclist sustained minor head and facial injuries and was transported to Trinity Hospital.
Mason was cited for disregarding a traffic control signal, police reported.
At about 2:49 p.m., the police, fire and ambulance again were dispatched, this time to the intersection of North Broadway and University Avenue West for a crash involving a bicyclist and a vehicle, according to police information.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 13-year-old Minot boy was riding a bicycle west across North Broadway in the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection when he was struck by a southbound sedan. The vehicle fled the scene following the crash.
The bicyclist sustained minor injuries and was transported to Trinity Hospital.
Officers located the involved vehicle within minutes in the 1900 block of South Broadway. The driver, Ryan Van Nostran, 22, Burlington, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident, a Class A misdemeanor, and was cited for failing to give immediate notice of a reportable accident.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
