Velva man dies in motorcycle crash

A Velva man has died and another was injured in a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in Minot on Monday evening.

According to Minot Police Department information, police and first responders were dispatched to the scene at 800 37th Ave. SE about 7:57 p.m. A preliminary investigation found a 2021 Yamaha YZF-R3 motorcycle was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when the rider lost control while approaching a curve. The motorcycle crossed into the westbound lane and was struck by a 2025 Dodge Ram 1500.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 26-year-old man from Velva, was wearing a helmet, but sustained fatal injuries. The 35-year-old male driver of the Dodge Ram, a Minot resident, suffered minor suspected injuries, according to Minot Police.

Weather and road conditions at the time were reported as good. The crash remains under investigation, and the name of the Velva man is being withheld pending family notification.
