Speed enforcement period to begin

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Department of Transportation has announced law enforcement across the state will take part in the Speeding Slows You Down enforcement campaign from Tuesday, July 1, through Monday, Aug. 4.

The campaign will involve extra patrols enforcing speed limits and removing aggressive drivers from the road. Speeding and/or aggressive driving is defined as speeding, driving too fast for conditions, following too closely or operating a vehicle in a reckless, negligent or aggressive manner.

“Speed limits are set to keep all road users safe,” Ward County Sheriff Robert Roed said. “They minimize the likelihood of crashes and the force of a crash’s impact on a person’s body. Slow down and arrive alive.”

According to NDDOT information, the enforcement is being implemented in anticipation of an interstate speed limit increase to 80 mph passed during the 69th Legislative Assembly. The increased speed limit goes into effect Aug. 1.

Preliminary data for 2024 shows speeding was a factor in nearly 24% of traffic fatalities in North Dakota, according to NDDOT.

Starting at $2.99/week.
