Minot man sentenced for sexual assault
A Minot man has been sentenced to time served and 10 years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to one count of sexual assault-mental disease or defect.
Zyair Keon Veasley-Sewell, 22, Minot, entered his change of plea to guilty to the Class C felony in North Central District Court on Thursday.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Minot police investigated a report on Sept. 12, 2024, from an apartment manager who stated a tenant was being sexually assaulted by another tenant in the victim’s apartment.
The victim, diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, reported Veasley-Sewell knocked on her door late in the evening and began touching her without her consent. Surveillance video showed Veasley-Sewel entering the victim’s apartment and leaving after about 20 minutes.
Veasley-Sewel was interviewed by law enforcement and initially denied physical contact occurred between him and the victim. He eventually claimed they only hugged and he kissed her on the cheek but became evasive when asked about the victim’s accusations, according to court documents.
District Judge Richard Hagar sentenced Veasley-Sewel to 360 days in the Ward County Jail, with all but 126 days suspended with credit for 126 days already served. The Class C felony will be deemed a misdemeanor pending the successful completion of 10 years of supervised probation. Veasley-Sewel was ordered to register as a sex offender and assessed $525 in court fines and fees.
