MSU Alumni Association announces 2025 Golden Awards
The Minot State University Alumni Association has announced the selection of four individuals for the 2025 Golden Award and one individual for the 2025 Young Alumni Achievement Award.
The honorees include Greg Blikre, 1977; Randy Hedberg, 1977; Lisa Johnson, 1995/2000; and Don Selk, 1972. The Young Alumni Achievement Award winner is Joseph Davis, 2013.
“Each year, the Golden Awards banquet during homecoming week is one of the top highlights at Minot State, and I look forward to welcoming each recipient and their families back to campus to celebrate their accomplishments,” said Courtenay Brekhus, MSU’s director of alumni engagement, in a news release.
Blikre is a board member of the Wyoming Community College Commission. He served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1972 and retired as the vice president of First National Bank of Gillette.
Hedberg recently retired from coaching after 11 banner seasons as associate head coach/quarterbacks at North Dakota State, where he helped guide the Bison to seven NCAA Division/FCS national championships. A member of the Minot State Athletic Hall of Fame, he was the head football coach at State Cloud State from 1999 to 2007 and MSU’s head coach from 1982 to 1989.
Johnson is currently the vice chancellor for academic affairs at the North Dakota University System (NDUS). A two-time graduate of Minot State, Johnson has split half of her 30-year career with MSU and the NDUS.
Selk retired after a 27-year career with Chevron, where he was mainly involved in seismic data gathering, processing and interpretation, which included 3D computer mapping and modeling. His time with the company gave Selk the chance to see the world, including assignments in Houston, Denver, San Francisco, New Orleans, and internationally in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Khartoum, Sudan.
Davis is an award-winning spoken word artist, bestselling author, national touring speaker, coach and educator whose work centers on healing, justice and joy. He has been featured on BET, VH1, CNN, Minnesota Public Radio, and in the Star Tribune in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Golden Awards are the highest award bestowed by the MSU Alumni Association. Selections are based on outstanding service to the university, alumni association or their community, and distinguished leadership in the recipient’s career or community, according to the university. The Young Alumni Achievement Award recipient is between the ages of 21 and 39.
The MSU Alumni Association will honor the 2025 class at its annual awards dinner on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Minot State Student Center Conference Center.
More information on each award winner and dinner tickets will be released in the fall semester.
