Minot student competes in Scripps National Spelling Bee

WASHINGTON – Chilaka Ugobi, a seventh grader attending Our Redeemer’s Christian School in Minot, competed at the Scripps National Spelling Bee that started on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, in the ninth round of competition, Chilaka was eliminated, according to Scripps National Spelling Bee information.

Chilaka placed 20th of 240 students from across the country and was the only student from North Dakota to compete.

The word that eliminated Chilaka was “quindecim.” Examples of words he spelled correctly were Kjeldahl, unitage, priscan and primiparous.
