The Minot Police Department has identified the deceased male recovered from the Souris River near the Broadway viaduct on Monday afternoon as Michael Gates, 52, Minot.

According to a release from the Minot Police Department, investigators believe Gates suffered a medical emergency just prior to entering the water or as he was in the water, which ultimately led to his death. It is unknown at this time where Gates entered the river nor is foul play suspected.

Gates’ family reported him missing later Monday afternoon as investigators were still working to confirm his identity.
