Airman charged with child sex crimes
A Minot Air Force Base airman has been charged with four felony counts following an investigation into alleged child sex crimes.
Cory Mulrain, 35, has been charged in two separate cases, the first relating to a Department of Homeland Security investigation that he allegedly surreptitiously recorded and had sexual contact with a juvenile under the age of 15.
Mulrain made his initial appearances in both cases on March 26-27, and faces three counts of promoting a sexual performance by a minor, a Class B felony; and one count of gross sexual imposition-sexual contact-victim under 15, a Class A felony.
According to affidavits of probable cause, Homeland Security Investigations Minot/Bismarck received an investigative referral from HSI Boston, who had identified Mulrain as a user of a darknet website who accessed and viewed child sexual abuse material.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted with the investigation, and served a search warrant on Mulrain’s residence at Minot AFB on March 25. Mulrain was interviewed while the warrant was being executed, and allegedly admitted to surreptitiously recording the victim in the bathroom and her bedroom in the residence.
The juvenile victim was interviewed at the Northern Plains Children’s Advocacy Center in Minot on March 26 following Mulrain’s arrest. The victim disclosed an incident in the spring of 2024 during the interview.
Mulrain is currently being held at the Ward County Jail on a $150,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in both cases on Thursday, May 1.
