Residents displaced after early morning fire

Six residents of a six-plex apartment complex were displaced after an early morning fire on Tuesday.

According to City of Minot information, the Minot Fire Department was dispatched to the residence in northwest Minot shortly before 5 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire in the basement of the building. While enroute, crews were notified tenants were attempting to exit the building, including one who was trying to escape by breaking a window.

The first of the five fire department units arrived on scene within five minutes of the call, and observed heavy fire coming from the northwest corner of the building. Firefighters quicking began attacking the fire and searching the premises for remaining tenants, locating one person still inside whom they safely escorted from the building.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire and prevent further damage to the structure. Three tenants received medical attention at the scene, and one person was transported to a Minot hospital for minor smoke inhalation. No firefighters were injured during the incident.

All six residents of the building have been connected with the Red Cross for assistance and six cats in the building survived the fire, according to the information.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
