Man sentenced for unlawful possession of firearm

A Minot man has been sentenced to serve a year and a day with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation after entering a change of plea of guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Parris Lashaunt Hayes Jr., 26, Minot, entered his change of plea to the Class C felony in North Central District Court on June 24.
According to court documents, the charge stemmed from an anonymous tip sent to the Minot Probation Office on March 20 that Hayes had a firearm at his residence. Hayes is prohibited from possession of a firearm due to a prior conviction from 2021 for unlawful possession of firearm by a felon. A parole search was conducted at Hayes’s residence on March 21, which located a loaded Ruger .22-caliber revolver. Hayes was arrested and charged shortly after.
Judge Richard Hagar sentenced Hayes to serve one year and one day with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation with credit for 97 days already served. Hayes was ordered to complete one year of supervised probation upon release, and to pay $125 in court fines and fees.
