The driver and passenger of one of the vehicles involved in a fatal crash south of Minot on Sunday has been identified by North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The driver of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander was identified as Tracey Quarne, 68, Bismarck, and the passenger as Cynthia Batchelder, 63, Orland, Calif.

The Mitsubishi was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 83 and began to slow in the driving lane to check on a vehicle stopped on the west shoulder when it was rear ended by a Jeep driven by Geoffrey Vannerson, 36, Underwood.

Quarne was taken to a Minot hospital for treatment but succumbed to fatal injuries. Batchelder and Vannerson were treated for minor injuries in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
