Inmate sentenced following jail-cell assault

A Flint, Michigan, man has been found guilty by the North Central District Court June 12 of aggravated assault on an adult victim.

Dajohnnius Demarcus Ross, 33, entered a change of plea after an incident at the Ward County Jail in February.

According to court documents, a Ward County deputy responded to the jail for a “barely responsive” male. The man was apparently assaulted. The responding officer observed camera footage and witnessed Ross following the victim into a cell for a short time, then leaving the cell. Ross was placed under arrest for aggravated assault on Feb. 21.

He was sentenced by Judge Douglas Mattson to five years confinement, with 20 months first served, and 56 days credit for time served. He was further sentenced to three years supervised probation, was issued an order to have no contact with the victim and had to pay $800 in fines/fees.
