Minot Area Senior Coalition had a speaker, Shannon Micheals, give a presentation on scams at the last Salute to Seniors.

I want to share a few takeaways from the presentation.

— Never give out personal information over the phone. Hang up and you call the company or service back.

— Make strong security codes for all your devices. Passwords like 12345 do not work.

— Make a family passcode. Give all family members the code and if a problem arises, you get a call from a family member who is in trouble and they don’t know the code HANG UP.

— Never send money, unless you tell someone what you are doing, even your bank.

— One thing I know, the more we talk about issues the safer we are. To do this we need to stop judgment and put embarrassment and pride aside. You think this will never happen to you or your family. I can assure you it does and it can. Be safe and talk, talk, talk.
