Murder defendant pleads guilty

A Minot man charged with murder after a fatal assault outside a north Minot hotel in February 2023 has entered a change of plea to guilty after entering into an agreement with Ward County prosecutors.

Casey Scott Vollmer, 34, Minot, entered his change of plea for the Class A felony at a pretrial conference Wednesday morning. The proceedings against Vollmer were briefly paused while he received treatment and evaluation at the State Hospital in Jamestown to ensure he was competent to stand trial, but the case was reinstated in January.

The family of the victim Albert Granger, 57, appeared virtually for the hearing, and a presentence investigation was ordered by North Central District Court Judge Gary Lee. The details of the plea agreement have not been made public at this time. Vollmer’s sentencing has been scheduled for Monday, Oct. 7.
