Enbridge here for long run

Working on a pipeline inspection project in Berthold, Enbridge employees are Zachary Keller, Shawn Benham and Kelly Massine.

Enbridge is happy to be a part of the story of the oil and gas industry and its progression in and for North Dakota.

Here’s a glimpse of Enbridge’s progression in the great state of N.D.:

Enbridge in general is a global energy infrastructure leader headquartered out of Calgary, Alberta (Canada) and out of Houston, Texas (US).

Enbridge is the operator of the world’s longest crude oil and liquids pipeline system. They’ve been an operator in the upper Midwest since 1950.

As to its origins in North Dakota, assets in the North Dakota area of the region were originally built by Hunt Oil and Great Northern Railroad in 1962, and at the time was named Portal Pipeline. Enbridge purchased Portal Pipeline in 1996 to help alleviate pipeline deliveries on the Enbridge mainline.

In 1996 Enbridge was moving under 65,000 barrels per day on the line that parallels U.S. Highway 2, known as Line 81, to its Clearbrook, Minnesota, terminal, where N.D. volumes enter the Enbridge mainline. Expansions on the system increased capacity to 110,000 barrels per day in 2010, to 185,000 barrels per day in 2011, and up to 210,000 barrels per day in 2012.

Today Line 81 can move up to 222,000 barrels per day, and is often full.

There are additional routes off the N.D. system, with Line 26 that can move north into Canada to enter the Enbridge mainline, as well as an offload connection near Tioga, to the Dakota Access Pipeline system. Total exit capacity on the N.D. pipeline system is approximately 415,000 barrels per day today.

Enbridge has primary facility offices across the state in Williston, Stanley, Minot and Grand Forks, with Minot being the local North Dakota main office, and currently employs approximately 85 employees across the state on its liquid pipeline system.

Enbridge is a staple in the local area communities, with employees very involved personally and professionally, participating in community activities and events, making donations and bringing large economic benefits and impact to the local and state economy.

Enbridge is happy to say it has progressed greatly in conjunction with the oil and gas industry over our 28 years in the state of North Dakota and plans to be here for the long run.
