Construction flagger from Fessenden injured

WING – A construction flagger from Fessenden was injured when he was struck by a vehicle on N.D. Highway 14, 10 miles south of Wing, on Friday.

James Wipf, 71, received serious non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a pickup driven by Dale Olson, 81, Wing, was going north on Highway 14. Wipf was standing outside the driver side door of a pickup parked on the northbound shoulder slightly in the road and using a sign to slow down vehicles traveling south. Olson slowly passed without incident a semi dropping off hay wattles for an upcoming construction project. He did not see the parked pickup that was farther north of the semi. He struck the back of the parked pickup, pushing it into Wipf. Wipf was taken to Sanford Hospital in Bismarck. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
