GARRISON – District 4 Republicans endorsed Chuck Walen of New Town for North Dakota Senate and incumbent Rep. Clayton Fegley of Berthold for the state House on Feb. 19 in Garrison.

Fegley was endorsed in District 4B. No House candidate was endorsed for District 4A, which encompasses Fort Berthold Reservation. The seat currently is held by Democrat Lisa Finley-DeVille of Mandaree. Sen. Jordan Kannianen, R-Stanley, is not seeking reelection.

Walen has an extensive background in accounting and farming and has a diversity of experience that includes real estate sales and serving on the school board in West Fargo.

Walen told convention goers that he believes in “family unity, a strong church and a good school system that educates, not indoctrinates.” He advocated for safeguarding the Legacy Fund and lowering, if not eliminating, property taxes.

A retired farmer, Fegley has served in the House since 2018. He spoke at the convention about bills he introduced to provide financial assistance for emergency medical services and the discharge of a rural ambulance service’s financial obligations.
