Democrats endorse District 38 House candidate

Lisa Hermosillo

The District 38 Democratic-NPL Party endorsed Lisa Hermosillo for the North Dakota House of Representatives on Saturday.

Hermosillo grew up on a farm in rural, southwest Minnesota, prioritizing volunteering as a youth. In 2008 she graduated from high school and pursued a social work degree from Bethel College for two years. She took a break from her studies to build a career in property management but also made sure to find ways to volunteer in her spare time. She has assisted with disaster relief, projects with Habitat for Humanity and providing meals at homeless shelters.

Her family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, in 2013, where she continued working in property management and eventually went to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

She later made the decision to stay home to focus on raising her children. The military brought her family to Minot in August of 2020.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a concentration in addiction studies. She plans to begin a master’s program in mental health.

Over the last several months, Hermosillo has been working to bring awareness to mental health and the impact suicides have, not just locally, but on a national level. In January, she partnered with another individual to found Talk United-Minot, which aims to provide connections and support to airmen, veterans and the community.

“I have established myself as a voice for vulnerable populations and continue to be a catalyst for change. I hope to bring fresh, relatable and balanced perspectives to the state Legislature,” Hermosillo said.
