Minot school board amends release agreement with former teacher

The Minot School Board has extended a resignation and release agreement entered into with a former teacher last year.

The original resignation and release agreement the board signed with former teacher Heather Raknerud in May of last year included provisions that would have compelled the district to offer Raknerud an employment contract should certain factors be met. The parties agreed to amend the agreement to change the expiration date of the possible job offer from Dec. 15, 2023, to April 1 of this year.

The conditions Raknerud must fulfill to compel the district to furnish a job offer include: the confirmed decision by the Ward County Human Service Zone is reversed on appeal, the finding of child neglect against her be completely overturned, and that Raknerud not engage in any conduct which would warrant further grounds for discharge.

The final condition was that Raknerud continue to hold a valid teaching license. Based on information from the North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board, Raknerud is licensed to teach in North Dakota under a five-year license that was renewed in July 2022.
