Minot police transition to ‘Crime Map’ system

The public will now have a new way to track and monitor reported incidents and calls for service in Minot as the Minot Police Department completes the transition to the Citizen Connect Crime Map program.
The Department will be phasing out the current calls for service log available on its website, and going live on Friday with an interactive map platform that will provide community members with a snapshot of reported incidents and investigated cases in the community.
Citizen Connect includes options to tailor the displayed map around a number of variables, from date range, to isolate or include both fire department and police calls, and filter by specific types of reported incidents such as DUIs or burglaries. Users will even be able to search for information about specific addresses in town with a range that is adjustable between .01 and 10 miles from the searched address. The platform will also allow for users to create alerts to notify them if there are reported incidents in the selected area that can be sent to users daily, weekly or monthly.
Certain incidents or cases will not be plotted directly on the map if they are sensitive in nature, like those involving minors or sexual assault. Instead such incidents will be plotted within the center of a 500-foot square grid rather than specific address where they occurred.
“The most important aspect of this new program is that it gives the citizens of Minot an easy way to look at what is going on in Minot,” said Police Chief John Klug. “For safety reasons, there is about a six-hour delay in the calls being posted onto the map. This is to provide safety to our officers and the parties involved in any incidents.”
