Child found dead at unlicensed Minot daycare

A Minot woman was arrested after a 15-month-old child was found dead at her unlicensed daycare on Wednesday.

Local authorities and first responders were dispatched to the northwest Minot daycare after receiving a report of an unresponsive 15-month-old child. The child was later pronounced deceased at a Minot hospital.

The child was at “Marked with Joy Daycare,” a residential daycare that was discovered to be unlicensed. Daycare owner, Joyell Marks Johnson, previously had her daycare license revoked due to a 2020 incident.

According to Ward County Sheriff Robert Roed, Johnson has been arrested for two counts of operating a daycare after license revoked, a Class B misdemeanor. One count was a result of the Wednesday incident, and one additional count came on Monday.

The investigation into the death of the child is ongoing.

Starting at $2.99/week.
