Vollmer announces retirement plans

Mark Vollmer, superintendent of Minot Public Schools for tnearly 13 years, has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2024.

“I have been blessed to work for Minot Public Schools since 2002 as Assistant Principal and Principal at Magic City Campus and Superintendent of Schools for both districts since 2011,” Vollmer wrote in a resignation letter submitted Monday. “My years at Magic City Campus were very special to me and I cherish the relationship I was able to build with students – many of whom are now parents in our district, and some who are now employees of the district.”

Vollmer helped guide MPS through the aftermath of the 2011 flood, which included the construction of the new Erik Ramstad Middle School. He also has led the district through passage of a bond issue that is funding the current construction of the new Minot North High School. The remodeling of the former Cognizant building for the high school is expected to be completed by December, and other work is expected to finish ahead of a fall 2024 opening.

The new campus will give Minot two high schools for grades 9-12. Central Campus will become a middle school next year.

“There is much yet to do,” said Vollmer, who plans to assist as needed beyond June to see the MPS Realignment Plan fully implemented in August 2024.

The school board has not yet acted on the resignation to begin the search for a replacement.

Starting at $3.75/week.
