Zoo’s Party for the Planet set for Saturday

Roosevelt Park Zoo will be holding a Party for the Planet on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon.

The event is being held to celebrate planet Earth and teach participants more about birds and how to help birds.

Travis Heil, education, conservation and outreach coordinator for the zoo, will give a welcome and program overview in the zoo’s Visitor Center’s meeting room, starting at 10 a.m.

Those attending also will receive an introduction to Bird SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) and learn about the importance of songbirds and ways to help birds.

Other activities planned include making bird feeders from pine cones or cardboard rolls with peanut butter and bird seeds; hanging up bird feeders in Roosevelt Park; conducting a bird count in the park and then returning to the Visitor Center to learn how to use the Citizen Science website and add data from the bird count.

The event is free. The first 60 individuals or family groups will receive a bird ID book.
