Newly restored P-47 warbird to debut at ‘Festival of Flight’

Submitted Photo A newly restored World War II P-47 that is part of the Bruce Eames Collection at the Dakota Territory Air Museum in Minot will be on display during the “Festival of Flight” event on Saturday. The photo was taken a few weeks ago during the test flight phase.

Participants at the Dakota Territory Air Museum’s “Festival of Flight” on Saturday will have the opportunity to view a newly restored World War II P-47.

Warren Pietsch, a Minot pilot and museum board of directors member, said the event will begin at noon and run until 4 p.m. The museum is located north of the Minot International Airport.

He said the P-47, restored by AirCorps Aviation in Bemidji, Minnesota, will be on display. The World War II plane was recovered from New Guinea, according to Pietsch.

Jenna Grindberg, museum director, said the P-47 is part of the Bruce Eames Collection at the museum. Eames is the owner of most of the warbirds at the Minot museum.

Several vintage planes will be flown during the event, weather and maintenance permitting.

“We are planning to fly one plane an hour,” Grindberg said.

After each flight, said Grindberg and Robin Brekke, museum events coordinator, each pilot will speak briefly about his or her plane.

Cost to attend the event is regular museum admission.

The next event scheduled is “Wings and Wheels (planes and cars)” on July 12, starting at 6 p.m.
