Minot’s Syttende Mai Celebration set for Sunday

Minot’s Syttende Mai Celebration will be held at the Scandinavian Heritage Park, 1020 S. Broadway, Sunday, May 17.

Syttende Mai (17th of May in Norwegian) is Norway’s Constitution Day. It is an official public holiday that commemorates the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in Eidsvoll on May 17, 1814, which declared the country an independent nation.

A walking parade will be held at noon at the park. Those taking part in the parade can wear their favorite Norwegian attire and wave flags while singing “Ja vi elsker.”

After the parade, a traditional lunch including hot dogs, salads and kranskake will be served at the Sons of Norway Thor Lodge.

Sunday also will be the opening of the park buildings for the summer season.

Starting at $2.99/week.
