Honoring a veteran

Eloise Ogden/MDN Roger Wahus, center, a U.S. Army veteran from Minot, was honored on Monday with a quilt presented to him by Lynn Heald, right, leader of the Peace and Honor Quilts of Valor in Minot, and Jackie Slagle, left, a member of the local Peace and Honor group. Wahus’ sister, Eileen Van Fossen of Jacksonville, Florida, made the quilt. He also received a certificate of appreciation. Wahus’ wife, Penny, and other family members attended the presentation held at the Minot VFW Club. Wahus grew up on a farm near Maxbass. He was in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and served in Korea and at Colorado Springs, Colorado. Peace and Honor has made and awarded more than 100 Quilts of Valor since presenting its first quilt in 2020, according to Heald.
