Day of Hope equals a day of gratitude

Jen Brodal/MDN Ashlee Possen, stylist at JC Penney Salon, gives Pamela Mckeel a new cut and style.

Tuesday was the second annual Day of Hope at The Pursuit Church in Minot.

The Church’s community resource fair was packed and was considered a tremendous success. Magic Bean Coffee’s bus was parked outside giving free cups of coffee to a full parking lot of guests.

Inside, Cindy Stock, community outreach coordinator for The Pursuit Church, said “We have 48 different non-profit organizations here today to help members of the community with anything from babies to our veterans, to service dogs, flu shots, haircuts, food and new coats and winter gear.”

Ashlee Possen, stylist at JC Penney Salon, commented on it being her first year to volunteer at such a “cool event” and what a great day she was having ” rockin’ out” haircuts. Her guest ,Pamela Mckeel, said she was overdue for a great haircut and “it felt good.”

The event was from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday and Mayor Tom Ross even stopped by and “was blown away” by the event, said Stock.

In 2021 Day of Hope had 250-275 participants and this year the numbers were well above 300, and at times standing room only. Stock said lots of tears of joy and so many thank you’s from the guests and so much gratitude goes out to the community of volunteers who donated their time and resources.

Starting at $2.99/week.
