Make a Scene Kids Theater presents ‘Wonderful Wizard of Oz’
Make a Scene Kids Theater will put on “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by Tim Kelly today through Sunday at the Full STEAM Ahead studio at 2915 10th St. SW, Suite C, in Minot.
Show times are 6:30 p.m. today, Friday, and Saturday, with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $10 for all ages at the door or online at www.steamnd.org. Proceeds will support the theater and other Full Steam Ahead programming.
The show will be a little different from the movie version that people are used to, with some elements from the books by L. Frank Baum, said Allison Auch, the executive director of Full Steam Ahead.
“There are some twists,” said Auch. “It starts in the land of Oz, then we make our way back to Kansas. There’s a China Country theme. There’s a China Princess. Our shoes are silver instead of red. The main concepts are there.”
Auch said the 14 children in the theater group have been rehearsing the play since the end of August and she is impressed by how well they have all been doing. Some of the actors are new to theater, she said.
The cast includes Kate Grubb as Dorothy, Maggie Ackerman as Toto, Russ Hokenson as the Lion, William Anderson as the Scarecrow, Archer Schnaible as the Tin Woodsman, Annie Carr as the Wicked Witch, Braya Auch as Glinda the Good, Kenleigh Monley as Oz, Jeannie DeHann as Aunt Em, Teagan Thomas as Boq, Raegen Routledge as the China Princess, Eli Chell as the Lead Guardian, Braya Monley as Winged Monkey No. 1, and David Main as Winged Monkey No. 2.
Full STEAM Ahead will offer other theater classes for kids ages 4 to 14 this fall, with a possible production next spring, said Auch.
More information about other Full STEAM Ahead classes and programming is available on the program’s website.
