State Fair super fun for marketing interns

Andrea Johnson/MDN Cavanna Andel, originally from Glenburn, and Regan Hartwig, from Minot, are marketing interns this summer at the North Dakota State Fair.

North Dakota State Fair marketing interns Regan Hartwig and Cavanna Andel have been having fun promoting fair activities while they also gain valuable experience.

“We just want to show everybody what the fair has to offer and all the events that you could do once you’re here,” said Andel, a Minot State University student who is originally from Glenburn. “You know, the rides are fun, the food is super good, but all the free events are super fun as well and a lot of people don’t know all the events that are going on. Our goal is just to inform everybody about what is going on.”

Andel was the emcee at the Hippity Hoppity Barrel Race that was held for children earlier this week at the fair.

Like other events she helped organize, she got to put her own twist on it by setting out the barrels a little differently than at past events.

“It was good,” she said. “The kids really enjoyed it. I gave them prizes if they won and they were super sweet kids.”

Hartwig, a 2019 Minot High School graduate, is also a graduate of Bismarck State College. She has been working to help coordinate Ranch Rodeo events at the State Fair on Wednesday.

She said the events promised to be a success.

“Both nights are full,” said Hartwig, who was familiar with the event from having attended previous Ranch Rodeos. “I think it will be really fun to watch.”

Andel started her internship with the State Fair in March and Hartwig signed on in March. It has taken a couple of months to get everything organized. As part of their internships, Andel and Hartwig have also promoted fair events on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, using photos of events from past years and making sure people know what is coming up. Andel said she has always enjoyed working with social media, so marketing was a good fit for her.

Both said their experiences will be valuable as they move forward in their careers.

Andel, who has also worked in marketing at Minot State University, said she plans to move to Arizona and work in marketing while finishing her degree at Minot State online.

Both said they are super glad to get to be part of the North Dakota State Fair and have enjoyed every minute of their internships.
