Kraft, Herrmann lead Minot school board race

Mitch Kraft and Sabrina Herrmann were ahead in the race for two seats on the Minot Public School board on Tuesday evening, with candidate Andrew Dittus in third place.

Herrmann, the director of communications at Ackerman-Estvold, a local engineering and architecture firm, said Tuesday night that she would “love to serve” the city of Minot and would be “really excited to win.” She pledged to listen to the concerns of district patrons and said she has answered a ton of messages on her social media pages, responding that she will check on a concern and get back to the person who reached out. She said responsiveness is important for anyone serving in public office.

Herrmann has a background in business and has worked in that field in different capacities at different local businesses and has been active in community organizations. Both of her children are graduates of Minot High School.

Kraft, manager at Prairie Supply Co., previously served on the Minot School Board and has two daughters attending the Minot public schools.

Kraft could not be reached for comment on Tuesday night but said earlier this spring that he believes the school board should have more parent members than non-parent members. When he previously served on the school board, he was involved in planning for the bond issue that was passed last fall that will fund two 9-12 high schools and the conversion of Central Campus into a third in-town middle school. He said it was nice to see that come to fruition. Kraft also said he thinks Minot will need to plan for another elementary school, since the community continues to grow.

The two elected board members will replace current board members Miranda Schuler and Laura Mihalick, both of whom decided not to run again.
