Incumbents re-elected to council

Minot’s incumbents won re-election in unofficial results in the city council race Tuesday night.

Paul Pitner led with 3,185 votes, followed by Mark Jantzer with 2,837 and Lisa Olson with 2,612. Trailing was Zachary Raknerud with 1,706. Darrick Trudell, who dropped out of the contest shortly after entering, was polling 1,564 in unofficial results.

Jantzer, a long-time council member, said felt good about his campaign.

“I felt pretty confident that I had gotten my message out and that many people had responded well to the campaign, trying to emphasizes the big picture things that we need to keep focused on, like flood control and NAWS and central city services and getting the NDR projects done,” he said.

He added he is grateful for another four years and will work hard to make sure that the city is well run.

“I am very pleased with the results and I am looking forward to serving the citizens of MInot for another four years, said Olson, who has served 12 years on the city council.

Although trailing Tuesday, Raknerud said he felt good about the campaign he ran.

“No matter what the results are, I have been happy with being able to give voters a choice,” he said. Given opening on the council with the election of council member Tom Ross to mayor, Raknerud said he would hope to be considered for appointment should that vacancy exist.

“I hope it’s considered that I put forth the effort. I want to represent Minot,” he said. “I think I bring a valuable perspective to the city, and I have shown that I am willing to stand up and be a voice.”
