Community can help name zoo’s tiger cubs

Roosevelt Park Zoo’s three Amur tiger cubs are growing and will soon need names.

Community participation is being requested to finalize names before the big reveal.

The animal care staff has chosen eight names. Each name has roots in southeast Russia, where the Amur River Valley is home to much of the endangered Amur tiger population.

Boy names: Artem, Dmitri, Igor and Luka.

Girl names: Katya, Kira, Nikita and Viktoria.

Genders of the three cubs have not been revealed yet. The adult male tiger Viktor will help with that reveal before the cubs are visible to the public.

The three names with the most votes that match the cubs’ gender will be announced at the reveal at noon on April 29.

There are several ways to participate:

1. In-Person fundraiser: Bring your change for the voting jars at the zoo.

2. Online fundraiser: www.rpzoo.com/change4change and vote for your favorite names. You can vote for one name several times or boost several names.

3.In-Person FUN-raiser: Cast your vote with our wooden nickels. Each wooden nickel will be counted as a nickel in the total count.

4.Online FUN-raiser: Watch for a bracket-style poll on RPZ Facebook. Each vote in the poll will be credited as a penny in the total count.

All funds raised will be split: half to the RPZ Change 4 Change Conservation Fund and half to the Big Cats #NewHabitat Capital Campaign.
