New police chief to be sworn in Monday

The City of Minot will officially swear in Michael Frye as the new chief of police during a public ceremony on Monday, according to City of Minot information.

The ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Minot City Hall council chambers, 10 3rd Ave. SW.

Frye brings more than two decades of law enforcement and leadership experience to Minot, having served in key roles with the City of Minneapolis Department until his retirement as a lieutenant in 2024. Frye served as Resources Unit leader for civil unrest, Homeland Security operations and SWAT tactical response. Frye also helped establish the State of Minnesota’s Office of Animal Protection.

Following his retirement, Frye served at Bismarck State College and continued his commitment to public safety education and training. He holds a master’s degree in leadership in homeland security and emergency management from Grand Canyon University and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Concordia University-St. Paul.

The public is encouraged to attend the ceremony in person and help welcome Frye to the community. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the City of Minot’s social media channels.
