County considers costs of moving Extension Service

The Ward County Commission on Tuesday approved nearly $24,500 in estimated expenses related to transitioning the North Dakota State University Extension Service office from the county administration building to the former county highway department facility.

The relocation has been in discussion for a few months, and no definitive timeline has been set yet for the move.

The commission held a special meeting to set caps on several expenditures necessary to prepare the facility at 900 13th St. SE for occupancy. The commission discussed appliances, cabinets, wiring and plumbing, technology and phones and some signage. Additional costs are expected to be addressed later, including electrical work, cleaning and purchase of tables and chairs.

Commissioners previously approved around $15,000 to hire a moving company. The commission plans to pay the costs associated with the move using a share of Ward County’s federal COVID-19 money through the American Rescue Plan Act.
