Brandon Youngwolf, Minot, sentenced to 2 years in prison for theft by deception

Brandon James Youngwolf, 38, Minot, was sentenced on Wednesday in district court in Minot to 12 years in prison, with all suspended but two years, and three years of supervised probation, for Class A felony theft by deception of more than $200,000 from a woman last year.

He will receive credit for 37 days already served in jail, plus five days off his sentence for good behavior. He received a concurrent sentence for Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia. He has also been ordered to pay court costs.

An A felony forgery charge was dropped under the terms of a plea deal with the state.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Youngwolf had been accused of stealing money from the woman’s bank account and of using it to purchase or try to purchase vehicles, write checks, and to try pay bills. Police said he tried to hide the thefts by transferring money from her savings account to her checking account. According to the affidavit, he used the money to buy three vehicles, including a 2006 Land Rover Range Rover, a 2013 Chevy Camaro, and a 2020 Kawasaki side by side ATV, all purchased from out of state, and tried and failed to purchase a 2004 Ferrari. Police said the vehicles were delivered to his residence and that he sold the Range Rover and the Camaro. Youngwolf also used the money to pay a cell phone bill and electric bills, according to the affidavit. When the victim confronted Youngwolf, he allegedly told the woman that he had “gotten greedy.”
