Minot & area families sought for Adopt- an-Airman program

Minot and area families are being sought who would like to take part in a new program pairing them with first-term airmen living in dorms at Minot Air Force Base.

The Adopt-an-Airman program, a new program of the Minot Area EDC’s Military Affairs Committee, will give a local family the opportunity to share their life with an airmen who has similar interests or characteristics such as sports, hobbies, religion and other activities.

The program will give families and airmen the chance to form lasting bonds, new friendships and build support networks with the local community and outside the normal military environment, according to Minot Area EDC information.

“For a lot of airmen, this is the first time they have been away from their friends and friends. To help ease the transition, families in the local community open their homes, and are friends and mentors to our airmen. The families provide our airmen with a caring environment and sense of belonging that could potentially build relationships that last a lifetime,” the information said.

According to the information, host families are encouraged to treat airmen as a member of the family, not as a guest.
