Grants available for local emergency food and shelter programs

North Central North Dakota has been chosen to receive $37,706 from EFSP Phase 38 Funds. Funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the counties of Bottineau, Burke, McHenry, Mountrail, Pierce, Renville and Ward.

The distribution of federal funds was made by a national board chaired by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consisting of representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, the Jewish Federations of North America, The Salvation Army and United Way Worldwide.

Local agencies chosen to receive funds must be nonprofits or units of government that are eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice non-discrimination and have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.

Qualifying organizations interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program Funds should contact Rich Berg at the Souris Valley United Way. Rich@svunitedway.com or 839-2994 for an application.

The deadline for applications to be returned to the Souris Valley United Way is March 11.
