Steven Parizek charged with fleeing from police, placing others at risk of death or injury

Steven Lee Parizek, 62, is accused of fleeing from a Ward County deputy in a motor vehicle and placing others at risk of death or serious injury, a Class C felony, on Wednesday.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, someone called the sheriff’s department and reported that Parizek was trespassing on his property. Parizek was driving a white GMC pickup truck with a 1920s car frame on a flatbed trailer. When the land owner approached, Parizek fled east across a stubble field. The caller later called back and informed authorities that the trailer had detached from the white GMC pickup at the intersection of 86th Street NE and 100th Avenue NE as Parizek tried to get around another driver at the intersection. Parizek then continued driving east on 100th Avenue NE. Ward County Deputy Nicholas Van Pelt responded, located the vehicle, turned on his lights and tried to stop the vehicle. Parizek drove away at high speed and continued speeding and at times swerving all over the road on roads throughout northeast Minot. At one point, driving at 75 mph, he swerved to avoid a tractor pulling three large bales of hay on a trailer. There was a man standing off to the side of the gravel road and the man’s dog was on the north side of the road. The driver of the tractor could not see the approaching pursuit and was driving over to the person standing on the side of the road. Parizek drove between the moving tractor and the person on foot at high speed, putting the pedestrian in danger.

Parizek eventually came to a stop in front of Van Pelt’s patrol car.

Parizek told Van Pelt he fled because “I wanted to see how long you guys would chase me.”

Parizek is also charged with Class B felony possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility.

Parizek was scheduled to make an initial appearance on the charges on Thursday before Judge Todd Cresap.
