Registered sex offender Marty Gefroh accused of breaking into woman’s apartment

High risk convicted sex offender Marty Allen Gefroh, 55, Minot, is accused of trespassing at the apartment of a woman who gave him a ride on Friday.

Gefroh is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony criminal trespass.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the woman had noticed Gefroh standing outside and offered him a ride. She took Gefroh somewhere to buy cigarettes and then dropped him off at a northwest Minot residence. She had not told Gefroh where she lived. On Saturday the woman left her apartment to do laundry. When she came back she noticed a green jacket and a hat was on the floor in the entryway. There was a slice of cheese on the coffee table that she had not put there and there was a bad smell in the apartment. She then saw Gefroh peeking at her from behind a wall in her apartment. Gefroh had pried the front door open to gain entry to her apartment. There were small chips from the door laying on the floor and gouges in the door. The woman told Gefroh to leave or she would call the police. The woman called police to report the incident. Police located Gefroh at 3:46 p.m. at a local dollar store and placed him under arrest.

Gefroh is on the sex offender registry because of a 2009 conviction for window peeping.
