Turtle Mountain tribe receives law enforcement grant

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Justice, through the Office of Justice Programs, has awarded $399,920 to the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians in Belcourt to develop and implement safety training programs for law enforcement and criminal justice agency personnel, according to Sens. John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer.

The funds will be used to support continued implementation of safety training for law enforcement and other criminal justice agency personnel responsible for sex offender registration, notification, monitoring and investigating failure-to-register cases and/or management. Additionally, a training plan will be developed and used at community meetings and for partner collaboration.

“This grant will support collaborative efforts to ensure Turtle Mountain’s law enforcement has the training it needs to hold offenders accountable and protect the community against the risk of future crimes,” said Hoeven.
